Standing Tall in Selous

This magnificent beast was captured on camera.

It stood alone, in the water reaching for high branches. This was an unusual moment because giraffes do not usually risk slipping in water. A single misstep means it is prey to crocodiles lurking in the water.

The giraffe’s neck is almost 7 feet ( 2 meters) long and it has only seven vertebrae,.

The scientific name is Giraffe camelopardalis, from the Greek words “camel” and “leopard” because it looks like a mix of the two animals. The giraffe is difficult to spot in among the tall trees; it can be well camouflaged.
